Public Libraries
Many public libraries offer a variety of databases, free of charge for library card holders. Users must apply for library cards in-person. Some databases are accessible over the web and some are accessible in libraries.
Some public libraries may impose residential restrictions on the issuance of a library card.

- MCLS (Metropolitan Cooperative Library System) an association of libraries in the greater Los Angeles area. Local libraries can refer challenging reference questions to MCLS subject specialists who work with the extensive collection of the downtown Los Angeles Public Library. Refer questions to your local library rather than MCLS directly.
- Pasadena Public Library provides fee-based database searches of DIALOG, DOW JONES, and LEXIS/NEXIS.
