New Search Engines and Metacrawler: Grokker, Google Scholar (Beta), and Dogpile
The Pepperdine University Libraries has added two new search engines, Grokker and Google Scholar (Beta) and a new metacrawler to the Search the Internet web page.
Grokker retrieves results from Yahoo!™ and presents them in contextually organized visual maps. Grokker is ideal for research because it facilitates broader exploration of a research topic and more quickly leads to the discovery of important but less obvious information that would otherwise be buried deep within unorganized textual lists of links.
In addition, the Pepperdine University Libraries holdings are now indexed by the Google Scholar (Beta) search engine. Google Scholar enables one to search specifically for scholarly literature, including peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts and technical reports from all broad areas of research. Use Google Scholar to find articles from the Pepperdine University Libraries as well as a wide variety of academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories and universities, and scholarly articles available across the web.
The Pepperdine University Libraries has also added the metacrawler, Dogpile to the Search the Internet page. Dogpile makes searching the Internet easy by searching Google, Yahoo!, and Ask Jeeves simultaneously.
