Campus-Wide IDs (CWIDs) in Library Catalog

In order to better safeguard personal information, effective November 1, current Pepperdine students, faculty, and staff may no longer use their social security numbers to perform requests (including item holds and renewals) within the Pepperdine University Libraries’ online library catalog. Students, faculty, and staff must now use their Pepperdine campus-wide id (CWID) to log in to their online library account. If you do not know your CWID, you may obtain it by logging into WaveNet:

Payson Expanded Saturday Hours

Beginning November 4th, Payson Library will remain open until 9:00 PM on Saturday evenings.

Payson Library Fall 2006 hours from Saturday, November 4, through Sunday, December 3, will be as follows:

Monday through Thursday, 7:30 AM – 3:00 AM
Friday, 7:30 AM – 9:00 PM
Saturday, 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM
(The Library will close at 6:00 PM on Saturday, October 28th.)

Sunday, 12 Noon – 3:00 AM

Closed: Thursday, November 23rd, and Friday, November 24th

Note: Expanded hours for Dead Week and Finals to come at a later time.

Knowledge Navigation Faculty Workshops - RefWorks

The University Libraries announce the acquisition of RefWorks, a web-based bibliographic management system, which enables users to automatically format a paper and a bibliography using a wide variety of formats, including MLA and APA. RefWorks allows users to create a personal database online, storing an unlimited number of records accessible from any computer linked to the Internet. It also allows researchers to share citations and collaborate on projects. Learn how to use RefWorks by attending one of the following scheduled classes:

New: Walter Lippmann microfilm collection

The University Libraries are pleased to announce that Pepperdine has purchased a copy of the Walter Lippmann microfilm collection from Yale University. Lippmann was a prominent journalist, media critic, and political commentator during the mid-twentieth century. The collection includes newspaper, magazine, bulletin, pamphlet, and miscellaneous items by and about Walter Lippmann from the Robert O. Anthony Collection, including the "Today and Tomorrow" columns for 1931-1967.

Book Discussion - Payson Library - October 30th

monsma_soper_book_cover  The Center for Faith and Learning and University Libraries will present a discussion of a new book by Stephen Monsma, former Pepperdine professor of political science, and Chris Soper, professor of political science and director of the Center for Faith and Learning. The book, "Faith, Hope and Jobs: Welfare to Work in Los Angeles" explores the effectiveness of 17 different welfare-to-work programs in Los Angeles County—a county in which the U.S. government spends 14% of its entire welfare budget—and offer groundbreaking insight into understanding what works and what doesn't. The event will be held on Monday, October 30 at 3:30 p.m. in the Kresge Reading Room of Payson Library. Light refreshments will be served.

Payson Library Research Refresher Sessions:

In order to assist students who need research help as midterm exams approach, Payson Library has scheduled two Research Refresher sessions. Students may drop by for individual assistance with research projects. Librarians will be in the library instruction lab to help students with their projects on the following dates and at the following times:

New: Seaver Business Blog

Pepperdine University Libraries is pleased to announce a new Seaver Business Blog for Business Policy, Strategy, and Ethics (BA 497). The Seaver Business Blog is designed to help Seaver College students perform research to locate information about U.S. and global companies, industries and the overall industrial climates in which companies operate, and strategic planning for analyzing companies’ internal and external environments.

One-Stop Info Search

To provide students and faculty with seamless access to content in library databases and catalogs, the Pepperdine University Libraries offer a new
federated search service. Federated searching allows students and faculty to search across a variety of databases and catalogs using a single web interface. Searchers may choose to search databases within a certain subject discipline or they may pick out individual databases and search them simultaneously.
