University Libraries GO LIVE with Pepperdine on iTunes U!!!!

The University Libraries are launching the official Pepperdine iTunes U site to the Pepperdine community this week! Anyone with a WaveNet login ID and password can now access the site and a myriad of resources, anytime, anywhere! With Pepperdine on iTunes U, everyone can discover, learn, and go! Pepperdine users can check out http://itunesu.pepperdine.edu today!!

Pepperdine community members will be among the first to see and use Pepperdine on iTunes U!!!! And what will they find?! For starters, numerous “podcasts” in both audio and video form, featuring everything from class lectures to special events, sermons, interviews, lecture series, commencement speakers, student productions, recitals, chapel recordings, tutorials…..and the list goes on and on.

Not only can people view and listen to these brilliant bits of Pepperdine online, but also they can download the items for future use on a MAC, PC, iPod, or they can burn a CD to share with others. With access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week the site can enable learners to stay connected anytime, anywhere. The best part about it all – EVERYTHING IS FREE!!!!

“The Pepperdine University Library team is delighted to work with Apple and our various campus partners to bring this service to the campus community,” said Mark Roosa, Dean of the University Libraries. “For centuries, libraries have facilitated the distribution of information and knowledge. Pepperdine iTunes U provides a new avenue for continuing this time-honored tradition.”

Last spring the Pepperdine Libraries signed a contract with Apple Inc. and purchased equipment to begin the development of Pepperdine on iTunes U, which enables Pepperdine to distribute digital audio and video recordings over the Internet.

Excited by the diverse sites already hosted by hundreds of schools like Stanford, LMU, and Abilene Christian, Pepperdine’s library team set to work to construct the foundation for a site that would be worthy of the Waves! Countless individuals and departments, faculty, staff, and students collaborated to begin gathering existing materials for the site.

After the internal launch to the Pepperdine community is complete, the team plans to make this site available to the public at the beginning of December. When the public facing site is turned on, alumni, donors, parents, and friends, along with the general public, will be able to connect to a wealth of Pepperdine resources.

Pepperdine on iTunes U is a dynamic platform that will continue to grow and change in the months ahead. In the next phase of development, the library team will work with schools and divisions to provide appropriate equipment and guidelines that will enable individuals to start capturing content to contribute to the site! This phase will also include the introduction of class level access to lectures that will be made available only to those students enrolled in a particular course.

Pepperdine on iTunes U will not only provide faculty and students with supplemental tools for teaching and learning, but it will enable our alumni, parents, and friends to connect back with the university as they seek to engage in lifelong learning. People searching for content on iTunes U will also be introduced to the uniqueness of the Pepperdine experience. So check out Pepperdine on iTunes U at http://itunesu.pepperdine.edu.…..and Discover, Learn, Go!

If you are interested in podcasting a class or event, or if you possess existing recordings that would be of value to the larger university community, please contact Michael Dula at Michael.Dula@pepperdine.edu or by calling (310) 506-4965.
