Locating biotechnology candidates for acquisition

The database Mergent will help you locate a list of biotechnology companies. By ranking the companies by sales, you can locate some of the smaller firms which could be possible acquisitions.

Login to the database Mergent Online.

  • Click the link for Primary SIC
  • Type 2836 into the box
  • Click Search
  • Go to the upper right and change Company Analysis List to Add All Companies with the pull-down menu
  • Go to My Mergent Tools on the right hand side and click the plus sign+
  • Click the link for Company Analysis List
  • Click the link for Company Comparison Report
  • Click >> to add all of the companies
  • Click the plus sign for company financials
  • Click the Total Revenues
  • Click > to add Total Revenues to the search
  • Select 2009 for the year
  • Select Microsoft Excel as the format and click Create Report
  • You can sort by total revenues to locate some of the smaller biotechnology companies
  • Do a basic search with the names of the companies to obtain more information on them
