GenderWatch database now available to Pepperdine patrons

GenderWatch is a full text database of unique and diverse publications that focus on how gender impacts a broad spectrum of subject areas. With its archival material dating back to 1970 in some cases, GenderWatch is a repository of an historical perspective on the evolution of the women’s movement and the changes in gender roles. Publications include academic and scholarly journals, magazines, newspapers, newsletters, regional publications, books, booklets and pamphlets, conference proceedings, and government, non-governmental organization, and special reports.

GenderWatch contains citations, abstracts, and full-text articles from international journals, magazines, newsletters, regional publications, special reports, and conference proceedings. This coverage includes more than 230 titles and more than 125,000 articles on gender issues and the impact of gender on a multitude of subjects including the arts, popular culture and media, business and work, crime and criminology, education, research and scholarship, family, health care and medicine, politics, policy and legislation, pornography, religion, sexuality and sexology, and sports and leisure.

GenderWatch’s historical content is extensive but not exhaustive and is limited to scholarship and articles that have been produced during and after the second wave of feminism. GenderWatch’s collection of current titles provides users comprehensive support for gender, family, ethnic, and societal studies from both academic and grassroots perspectives. Users will find essential titles such as Off Our Backs (1970 to current) and Transgender Tapestry, international titles such as Sister Namibia and the Australian Feminist Law Journal, community newspapers such as Out & About and the Windy City Times, and many other diverse and interdisciplinary publications. Coverage is cover to cover for many journal issues but not for all titles included. GenderWatch was awarded Choice’s Outstanding Academic Title in 2008.
