Pepperdine Libraries Welcome WorldCat Local!
September, 2009-Pepperdine University Libraries
Just in time for the new school year, the Pepperdine Libraries are pleased to announce the launch of WorldCat Local – a cutting edge 21st century information retrieval solution. The new global search and retrieval function gives users access to over a 100 million unique resources worldwide, making it easier than ever for users to find, get, and use the resources they need most.
Dean of Libraries Mark Roosa notes that, "WorldCat Local will provide students and faculty with new and exciting connections to the expanding world of knowledge resources. With its friendly user interface and improved inter library loan and expedited delivery service, WorldCat Local is an effective and innovative way for users to search, locate and obtain materials in all formats from libraries around the world."
WorldCat Local is an online catalog interface that enables users to search locally and globally with ease and accuracy. Users are now able to find and retrieve, over 100 million unique items worldwide including books, journals, media, government publications, maps, digital collections, and more! This will provide expanded Web access to numerous resources through a Google-like search box now available on the Pepperdine Libraries homepage at library.pepperdine.edu.
When a library user conducts a search using the new box, items that are available locally—collections in the Pepperdine Libraries—are shown at the top of the search results. The service also displays information about libraries outside Pepperdine to help users find resources that might not be available on campus, but that can be requested through the synchronized inter library loan service. Users can place holds on checked out items or request a loan of an item from another library right from their search page.
