Art Full Text Search Tips:

Use the All-Smart Search in Art Full Text for the simplest searching.

  • searches for terms appearing in any part of the record
  • most relevant articles appear at the top of the search results list

For more precise results:

Click on pull-down menus on the right side of the screen to search specific fields:

  • All-Smart Search: entire record

  • Keyword: everything but the full-text

  • Subject: Assigned terms that reflect the subject of an article. For example, articles about the "Sistine Chapel"  will use the term "Vatican/Cappella Sistina"

  • Title: title of the article

  • Author: writer of the article

  • Source: Name of the publication (e.g., Architectural Digest or Sculpture Review)

Limiting Articles to Full-text:

Click the box for Full text to limit your search results to articles that are available in the full-text.

Combining Search Terms:

You can use connectors to establish logical relationships between words and concepts within the Art Full Text fields.

AND - narrows your search; will retrieve only those records which contain ALL of the words you type

Example: sculpture and florence will find records that contain both the terms sculpture and florence.

OR - broadens your search; will retrieve those records which contain EITHER word you type.

Example: florence or rome will find records with both words as well as records with just the word florence and just the word rome.

Searching for Plurals

Add * to the end of a word to search the plural forms of that word.

Example: cathedral* will find records with cathedral or cathedrals.
