About Pepperdine University Libraries

Resources for Visitors

Members of the Malibu community are welcome to visit the Payson Library on the Malibu campus to attend library events and exhibits and consult the print collections. Members of the general public who wish to use government documents online or in print at Payson Library may do so with the assistance of a librarian. Computers, printers and scanners in Payson Library and at the Pepperdine Campus Libraries are reserved for use by Pepperdine students, faculty and staff. Members of the general public who are interested in accessing the facilities and services of the university's libraries are welcome to join the Friends of the Library. Out of respect for faculty and currently enrolled students, Friends of the Library are asked to limit their time in the library to no more than two hours per day. Electronic databases and the Ask an Expert service are only available to Pepperdine students, faculty, staff, alumni, Crest members, and Friends of the Library at the Associate level or higher. Interlibrary loan services are limited to current Pepperdine students, faculty and staff.

Friends of the Library

California residents who are interested in borrowing books from the Pepperdine University Library are welcome to join the Friends of the Library.

Friends of the Library may borrow up to five books at any one time for a two week period. Books are renewable for an additional two weeks. Friends of the Library may search the Pepperdine online catalog in the library or at home through the Pepperdine Libraries' website. Friends of the Library may search most of the library databases when they visit the Pepperdine Libraries after showing a Reference Librarian a valid Friends of the Library card and a picture ID.

Friends of the Library whose memberships are at the Library Associate level or higher may now search select library databases from off-campus. You will need a username and password to access these databases. To obtain your username or password, please call the Dean of Libraries Office at (310) 506-4252, Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If you need assistance with database searching, do not hesitate to Ask a Librarian.

Crest Associates

Crest associates may register for borrowing privileges at Payson Library Circulation Desk by presenting a valid Crest Associates' card and a picture ID card (e.g., driver's license). Associates must register in-person and agree to comply with all library regulations. The registration procedures must be repeated annually to renew library privileges. If your ID card is lost or stolen, you must notify the library immediately. You will be held responsible for any materials checked out with that card before its loss is reported. Do not give your ID card to others for checking out library materials.
