New Digital Resources for Fall 2022
As Pepperdine Libraries prepared for the start of the academic year, we added or updated several digital resources to serve our community’s teaching, learning, and research needs. The new collections include the following:
The Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary and the Anchor Yale Bible Commentaries
The Anchor Yale Bible Series, previously the Anchor Bible Series, is a renowned publishing program that, for more than 50 years, has produced books devoted to the latest scholarship on the Bible and biblical topics. Yale University Press acquired this prestigious series in 2007.
The Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary is a six-volume state-of-the-art dictionary of the Bible offering the most up-to-date and comprehensive treatment of biblical subjects and topics. The Dictionary is an interfaith exploration of the Bible that is interdisciplinary in scope. It contains more than 6,000 entries, covering topics such as early Jewish-Christian relations, the historical Jesus, sociological and literary methods of biblical criticism, feminist hermeneutics, and numerous entries on archaeological sites, as well as bibliographies with citations listed individually at the end of each article. Additionally, the Dictionary contains articles on pseudepigraphic and apocryphal texts, Nag Hammadi tractates, and individual Dead Sea Scrolls, including the most recently published sectarian Dead Sea Scrolls, as well as articles illustrating the literary artistry of the biblical text.
The Anchor Yale Bible Commentaries consist of over 86 volumes. Each one includes an original translation with translational and text-critical notes; overviews of the historical, critical, and literary evolution of the text; an outline of significant themes and topics; a verse-by-verse commentary; treatment of competing scholarly theories; historical background; and photographs, illustrations, and maps of artifacts and places associated with biblical figures and sites. Depending on the size and complexity of the book, some are covered in more than one volume.
Ebooks on Sustainability
Pepperdine Libraries recently added a collection of more than 220 peer-reviewed ebooks published by IGI Global on sustainability. Much of the research is multidisciplinary covering 11 major subject areas, including business, education, computer science, government, and social sciences. The books are indexed in Scopus, ERIC, and other resources. All books allow unlimited simultaneous users and may be accessed through the Pepperdine Libraries catalog. A list of titles in this collection can be accessed on the publisher's website.
Policy Commons
Center for Research Libraries partnered with Coherent Digital to make Policy Commons available free for many institutions, including Pepperdine. Policy Commons offers access to more than 3 million publications from nearly 24,000 organizations covering thousands of topics. A number of new lists are also being shared globally, including top organizations in libraries and scholarly publishing, London's poverty profile by Trust for London, and housing evictions in the United States. Content is harvested comprehensively and frequently from major international organizations, including OECD, UN, World Bank, IMF, FAO, WHO, and EU, and complemented with the output from critical NGOs, such as Pew Research Center, American Enterprise Institute, and Russell Sage Foundation.
Ebooks on Digital Teaching and Learning
Pepperdine Libraries acquired a collection of more than 100 Taylor & Francis ebooks on digital teaching and learning, offering a rich, comprehensive survey of today’s digital education landscape. The complete list includes books on educational technology, instructional design, online and blended teaching and learning, and lifelong learning. The books are individually cataloged and can be found by title or subject in the Pepperdine Libraries catalog.
Business Source Complete
The library updated its Business Source Premier subscription to Business Source Complete, a database of citations, summaries, and full text articles from academic journals, magazines, and trade publications dating back to 1886. Also included are current company, industry, and region reports.
