FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MALIBU, California (October 7, 2024) – Pepperdine Libraries is pleased to announce the appointment of Gabrielle Riter as West Los Angeles campus librarian. Riter earned a master's in library and information studies from UCLA and a bachelor’s in art history from Loyola Marymount University. In her role, Riter will oversee the West Los Angeles Graduate Campus Library, which supports the research, learning, and teaching needs of the Graziadio Business School and the Graduate School of Education and Psychology—both headquartered in West Los Angeles.

Mark Roosa, dean of libraries, expressed his delight in Riter’s appointment. “As head of the West Los Angeles Graduate Campus Library, Gabrielle has undertaken a significant leadership role at Pepperdine Libraries,” he stated. “She’ll make a tremendous contribution to the teaching and learning needs of the West LA community as she leads instructional sessions and works to find and acquire resources for faculty and students.”

Riter’s main responsibilities include assisting students with research, teaching workshops on library resources, acquiring books and other materials for the library, and supervising the employees who work the circulation desk. The West LA library also houses the iLab, a studio space where students, faculty, and staff can record videos and podcasts. The library also provides editing software, and Riter describes the space as a “one-stop shop” for podcasting.

By connecting students with the information they need, Riter’s role is instrumental in impacting student learning at West LA. “Because there is an overwhelming amount of information available to us now, it is crucial for students to learn how to navigate vast amounts of digital and print resources. I especially enjoy helping students learn how to develop the skills needed to find, evaluate, and use information effectively and ethically,” Riter stated.

On Tuesday, October 15, 3 – 5 PM, members of the West Los Angeles Graduate Campus community are invited to meet Riter and her team and learn more about the library’s resources during an open house. Refreshments will be served, and attendees are asked to RSVP.
