Virtual Bookshelf Enables Serendipitous Discovery

We've recently updated our catalog to WorldCat Discovery, which allows patrons to quickly find resources available from Pepperdine Libraries and other libraries worldwide. An exciting feature of the new platform is a virtual browser that displays all of the libraries' holdings in shelf order. While searching for a book, you can scroll through and view titles arranged as they exist in the library building. Especially during the era of COVID-19 and online learning, it's a way for library patrons to discover new books serendipitously, just as one would in the physical space. Another addition to the new WorldCat Discovery platform is a one-step search for the growing number of ebooks available to the Pepperdine community. On our General Collections page, users can enter their query into a search box, and everything but ebooks will filter out. You can also refer to our ebooks guide, which has instructions on how to manually filter our catalog for ebooks.
