New Archivist Christopher Miehl Excited to Help Preserve Pepperdine’s History
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MALIBU, California (August 19, 2024) – Pepperdine Libraries is pleased to announce the appointment of Christopher Miehl to the position of university archivist. Miehl, who holds a master's in library and information studies from UCLA, will oversee the acquisition, description, and preservation of the library’s growing archival assets.
Prior to joining the Pepperdine Libraries team, Miehl worked at the Smithsonian Institution, UCLA’s Music Library, the Colburn School in Downtown LA, and the Los Angeles Public Library. Miehl looks forward to working with members of the Pepperdine community to archive our institutional memory, and he is especially eager to look for ways to bring the archives alive in new ways.
Dean of libraries Mark Roosa is enthusiastic about Mieh’s appointment. Roosa notes, “The archivist role at Pepperdine Libraries is an important one. I’m looking forward to the leadership Chris will provide as he oversees the collection, organization, and preservation of historical materials that tell Pepperdine’s story.
Miehl, who grew up in southern California, received his undergraduate degree from University of California, Santa Barbara, where he studied ethnomusicology, and played in various ensembles. It was at UCSB where he became introduced to special collections, which sparked his interest in a career in archives.
Noted Miehl, “I believe that being a steward of the university’s archival record is a wonderful opportunity to serve in a meaningful way. I look forward to carrying out that responsibility with excellence.”
