Genesis Lab Introduces Makerspace Cart

Over the summer, the Genesis Lab added an exciting new offering. Our new Makerspace Cart allows Pepperdine Libraries to bring some of the Genesis Lab’s cutting-edge tools and resources directly to you. 

Extending the Genesis Lab’s capabilities beyond our physical doors supports the Libraries’ efforts to impact student learning. The Makerspace Cart includes a small 3D printer—an A1 mini, with multi-color printing capabilities—and a Cricut Joy 2, which can be used to create custom vinyl decals, heat transfer projects, and more. We also have a compact heat press for students to make custom hats or shirts on the go. 

With the new cart, we are organizing pop-up sticker-making and 3D printing events around the Malibu campus, so keep an eye out for us. We also welcome the opportunity to collaborate with students, faculty, and staff on their programs. One such recent collaboration was with Pepperdine’s Resilience Informed Skills Education (RISE) Program. Taking the cart from Payson to their offices on the third floor of the new Student Center at Mullin Park, we led one of RISE’s “Crafternoons” sessions, their bi-weekly program in partnership with the Counseling Center that supports student well-being and creativity through crafts, healthy snacks, and resilience skills education. During our activity, students 3D-printed custom keychains with their names on them and created custom vinyl stickers.
